Chris Cook - CEO, Kalihi Beer &Olohana Brewpub

A beer enthusiast and brewer since moving to Hawaii from California in 2008, Chris refined his brewing style on his lanai with a home brew kit gifted from his brothers in law. Tapping into his creativity and inquisitive nature, Chris soaked in the history and science of beer making while faithfully brewing a new batch every two weeks.

Transitioning from freelance photography to brewing full time, Chris became the first brewer at the newly opened Lanikai Brewing Company in Kailua in 2015, learning the business and applying brewing processes on an industrial scale. Two years later, he became a partner and then sole owner of Broken Boundary Brewery in Kalihi, navigating the challenges of establishing a new brewery during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2022,Chris rebranded the business to Kalihi Beer while focusing on serving and supporting the local community, ultimately moving in 2025 to the heart of Honolulu's Chinatown as Olohana Brewpub by Kalihi Beer in the former location of Stewbum& Stonewall Brewing Co. at 96 North King Street.

Chris holds a bachelor's degree in journalism and mass communication and studio art; photographyfrom HumboldtState University in California. He lives on Oahu with his wife (his first brew partner) and two children, and occasionally finds time to hike, ferment foods, and enjoy Japanese whisky.
